Canada has relied on immigration as a way to boost the country’s economy as well as support the aging population of its residents. The government, led by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, has counted on the economy being fueled by newcomers since gaining power over seven years ago. He has set a yearly goal of about one percent of Canada’s population of close to 38 million to obtain a visa to migrate to Canada. The latest goal for 2022 is to add 411,000 permanent residents to the country. There are many opportunities available in this land of diversity.

Permanent residency for 401,000 new immigrants

The 2021 target set by Canada’s government was to grant 401,000 newcomers permanent residency by aiming all efforts on temporary residents already living in the country, according to Canadian Immigration Minister Sean Fraser. In 2020, when the borders were closed tightly due to the global pandemic, new permanent residents fell over 45 percent to 185,000. The number of new permanent residents living in Canada on temporary status this year reached a record that dates back 100 years. Fraser proudly said that an ambitious goal was set last year and the goal was achieved.
